Paddling with whales and bears

This was a most awesome weekend for paddling! On Saturday, I was paddling south of Shell Beach and came upon 2 humpback whales feeding super close to shore! They were swimming all around my boat and put on quite the show. You can see a video I took of them on the "Videos" page here on the site. I apologize in advance for the unintended commentary--I was a little nervous when they got close to my boat.

Sunday, Doug, Hans, and I paddled at Santa Margarita Lake and I saw a little brown bear. He was very cute and was right on the water's edge until he got spooked and went up into the trees and brush. The lake is pretty as ever, but gosh, the water is way, way low so a lot of the coves aren't accessible anymore.

It was a fabulous paddling weekend and bodes well for the rest of summer!
