Looksha Maiden Voyage 28 Dec 2008
Dec 28 2008, 10:24 PM EST
Kat and I had a wonderful time on the maiden voyage of her Looksha IV! We launched from the dock at Port San Luis (Kat's in her leg cast so we couldn't do a surf launch) and paddled down to Pismo Pier. The weather was absolutely gorgeous today--no wind and low 60's air temp.. It was as if we had the whole ocean to ourselves as there were no people out in any boats anywhere. There were few birds or marine mammals about although we did see a couple of solitary dolphins and a bunch of sea otters, including Slick, the resident otter at Shell Beach. We helloed Kat's family at the end of the pier at Pismo and then paddled back to the beach below Shelter Cove and met them there for lunch. Kat paddled her grand-daughter Madison out in the Looksha to give her an introduction to kayaking--they did great! We launched again and headed back towards Pt. San Luis into a bit of a breeze, but nothing major. I got caught up in trying to photograph a turbaned jewel snail on some kelp off of Fossil Point, but we still got back to the dock at Port San Luis about 3. The tide was way, way out so we landed on sand below the dock.It was an awesome day! A perfect way to introduce Kat's new kayak back to the water! Do you find this valuable?
