FOG (Part 1)

My brother in law drove up from San Diego with his uber kayak, a carbon fiber EPIC, to explore the coast and see what we have to offer. My plan was to recreate the Morro Bay to Cayucos paddle I had read about on the trip report from the week prior. I was very excited so we set our alarms for 6:30 a.m., Saturday the 25th and set out for Morro Bay. Have you ever sat in your car at Coleman Beach and described the PG&E stacks and Morro Rock to someone because you couldn’t see Morro Rock or the PG&E stacks? Yep, fog, we had about fifty feet of visibility. I said, “Hey, why don’t we just paddle around a while and see if it lifts?” We put-in and oozed our way through the thick gray misty cloud of uncertainty all the while listening to the reverberations of the powerful engines of the Coast Guard Cutter and the steady drone of the fog horn. We sort of picked our way up the channel (down the channel?) by following the sterns of the sailboats along the embarcadero. We were unable to see the boats moored on the other side of the channel. We continued to the back of the bay and were quite lost… (end of part I) 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
