4th of July Paddle
Jun 15 2008, 9:24 AM EDT We are in the planning stages for a 4th of July paddle in Morro Bay to watch the fireworks. Also thinking of roasting hot dogs for dinner. Watch this thread for details to come. Do you find this valuable? |

Jun 17 2008, 3:18 PM EDT So far the plan is to meet at Coleman around 3 or so and do an early paddle in the bay. We'll reconvene back at Coleman and roast [fill in your desired meat or veg product that you bring here]. Bring your own utensils, beverage, and a side dish or dessert you wish to share. After dinner, we'll paddle back out to watch the fireworks from the water. Bring some sort of a light for while you're on the water in the dark. Loading boats back onto vehicles will be a group effort since we'll be doing it by flashlight. This will be a lot of fun and I encourage everyone, newcomers and veterans alike, to come out and join us! Jun 19 2008, 6:25 PM EDT What do other people use for lights out there? Just glow sticks? Headlamp? Flashlight lashed to the boat? I'm not sure what I should use or if I need to go pick something else up that's more appropriate or safer than what I have. Thanks! Do you find this valuable? |

Jun 19 2008, 8:18 PM EDT We have been going out with glowsicks (me one on each wrist, one on each side of the paddle and fore & aft on the kayak) These are just the 8" loops so they are easy to use & attach. Marj has been using lights hanging from each side of her seat. Both are pretty visible. Using yellow & green (glowsticks)seems to show up the brightest. I've been picking them up at Dollar Tree. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jun 20 2008, 1:21 AM EDT "Awesome! Thank you! Dollar Tree here I come."Hey guy's, I have about 50 glowsticks all sorts of colors that we didn't use at the Elkhorn Slough. We can scotch tape them to our paddles and one at the bow & Stern. Flash lights will of course come in handy, especially when we're putting the kayaks away. I also have some lights designed to place on the kayaks with suction cups......I am way too excited about the 4th.....! Hope we get a huge turnout. Now Rey should be able to make this one!!! I'm taking the train to SLO from SB and then riding my bike to camp at MB. Probably won't be able to make it for the early paddle at 3, but would love to join you later. A before dinner paddle about 4:00 and back somewhere between 5:30 and 6:00 to bbq, eat, and visit. Out on the water for the fireworks after that. There are 20 folks coming so far, and we've always got room for more, so let us know if you can make it so we can look for you. Many thank yous to Victor for getting this all planned out! I was just white-water rafting this weekend up at the American River (Middle Fork), so I got some extra practice paddling. I don't expect that we'll have the same white water conditions on the bay. ;) I hope to be able to join you for the early paddle at 4, but if not I will definitely meet up with you for the BBQ and later paddle.
