This isa gorgeous waveskiing video taken in Hawaii. It gives you a real clear sense of what a pleasure it can be to surf a ski (or a surf kayak for that matter). After watching it, it always makes me want to go out and improve my surfing! Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDGnm6ohR2U

Nobody laugh! This is me surfing my new ski. Never mind that it's a little wave--at least I'm upright and going in the right direction! :-)

h2onissa Surfing in San Diego 2 Mar 31 2008, 10:50 PM EDT by h2onissa

I got to surf down in San Diego on Friday and had the most incredibly great time! The water is so darned warm compared to here that you can stay out for hours and hours. I got to see leopard sharks! They were about 4 feet long and it was an eerie feeling at first surfing with them scattering around underneath you. Val kindly and generously told me about places to go and I chose the marine room in La Jolla. The waves were super friendly and didn't mash me as much as I'm used to at Pismo. I went out in the morning at a lowish tide and the waves were small, but dang, they were a lot of fun. I stopped for lunch and to check out some of the other places, then went back in the afternoon. Sean Morley and Nigel Foster were there with a class! There were 12 of us out there surfing (the other guys were in the closed deck surf kayaks)--what fun to be out with a whole bunch of paddle surfers and everyone was super, super nice! Nigel said I looked good and was doing just fine and that all of us are always learning which made me feel real good. I wish I had known it was him at the time; I would've asked him lots more questions. But maybe it's just as well I didn't. The waves were bigger in the afternoon, but still just as friendly. I'm not sure why they were so different than here, but I was definitely spoiled and I know the next time I get out here I'm going to be wishing I was there! I'm going to try to go down there more often. I wanted to surf at San Onofre on Sunday, but the surf was pretty much non-existent and the wind had messed up what little waves there were. Oh well, that was disappointing, but I had such a fabulous time on Friday that it more than made up for it.

A great big thank you to Val for helping to make this happen for me!
