Spooner's Cove in Montana de Oro State Park

When the conditions are right, you can put-in here and paddle around the point to the left in the photo to explore the beautiful caves along the bluffs. This is also the starting point for a superb ocean paddle to Port San Luis, but you must be sure to stay a mile away from Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. Folks also fish along the kelp beds outside the mouth of the cove. You must be cautious about paddling here, however, because of the potential wind and swell, and the hidden reefs that extend way out from the bluffs that cause unexpected breaking waves.
